A restaurant, a story, a welcome and traditional cuisine

It is such a place that can never die. The old railway station at Vers-Pont-du-Gard, surrounded by vineyards, cannot fail to charm you. The spirit of the bustling station is still felt today.

These long abandoned railway lines, deserted today, have found a new lease of life. This time it's a greedy one because it has now become a restaurant, for the greatest pleasure of the taste buds and eyes. You will find at the restaurant « La Petite Gare » an opportunity to enjoy a meal with friends, family or collegues.

Creative and inspiring menus

History of the place

The Paris-Lyon-Marseille railway companycommonly known under the name of PLM was one of the most important french private railway companies between its creation in 1857 and nationalisation in 1938 when SNCF came into being. The route served the south est of France, notably the côte d'Azur, Provence, the Cevennes and the Alps and for that reason, the PLM was the company, par excellence, that the upper class owners of second homes in that area would use (one of wich was Queen Victoria) The parisian station of PLM was the gare de Lyon. Several companies proposed comprehensive details of the route. The final decision was made by the french gouvernment who set the routes and granted the land required,

LOne of these routes, in the Languedoc Roussillon region run from Le Martinet Beaucaire. It was a non electrified line with a standardised width wich only allowed 1 train at a time to run any direction; the ervice was opened by PLM. The stations were opened as construction progressed between 1880 and 1883 when the route was finally completed, in particular it stopped atUzes and of course Vers.

Summary : opening of the lines to the towns as shown below :
Résumé : 30 august 1880 : Remoulins to Uzes
25 septembre 1883 ouverture de Beaucaire à Remoulins
25 september 1883 : Beaucaire to Remoulins and Uzes to Saint Julien-les-fumades
1938 : closing of passenger trains by SNCF
1990 : closing of freight trafic
15 september 2010 : the government theit decision to close teh Remoulins -Uzes line from the 60 km mark starting from « le Martinet »
steam engines were used
apparently, it was a station for passengers only, as the station for freight (PLM 2 doors) was started outside the village.

The station-master (the chef)

Iwas born in Normandy, to be precise : in Rouen wich is in the department of Seine Mritime and I followed the classical training for this rôle, wich involved 4 years at the catering college in Rouen allowing me learn all about the skills wich would be needed.
I learnt about all the jobs, from the bottom to the top, relating to the running of hotels and restaurants : customer service, reception, accounting, public relations, wines and of course cooking.
Initially, I became a waiter keeping close to the kitchen to became aware of all the food being prepared and wines offered so that I would be able to meet the customers expectations.

My choice of career allowed me to travel a lot and consequently, I discovored a great number of establishment with their own methods of working administratioon, cooking, and a diverse number of colleagues ! Hre are some of the palces I have been lucky to work : Corsica, Courchevel, Les 2 Alpes, Colmar, 5 years in Switzerland, 2 years in greece and now 14 years in this area.
My passion is cooking for others ; when I arrived at this stage of my professional life, I needed to fulfil the strong desire within me to create something true to myself : the restaurant « Au Tout Petit » in Avignon, wich I owned ans developed over more than 7 years became a place of sharing and passion.<

« La Petite Gare » is the continuation of the hard work started with « Au Tout Petit » but another place, another dimension, however with the same spirit and love of my job.
My name is Silvère !<
